With Vince Cullen, 24 – 28 August, 2015: This is a 5-day residential retreat exploring Buddhist practices that support recovery from addictions. It will involve an introduction to recovery from addictions and compulsions that manifest as Craving, Aversion and Confusion. The focus will be on developing an understanding and appreciation of the difference between ‘abstaining’ from intoxication and ‘abandoning’ intoxication.
Vince Cullen first came to New Life in 2010 as a retreat participant before going on to teach his own retreats each year since 2012. From Hungry Ghost to novice monk to returning New Life retreat leader, Vince Cullen is living proof that there is life after alcohol and other drugs. An interview:
With Vince Cullen, 23 – 27 March, 2015: This mindful recovery retreat offers the opportunity to experience a wholly Buddhist approach to recovery from all forms of addiction. This retreat is open to those new to recovery as well as those who have been on the path of recovery for a longer time. All are welcome to sit together to discover and explore alternative & complementary approaches to recovery that support our aspiration of total-abstinence.
This is our third Hungry Ghost retreat with Vince Cullen. The Realm of the Hungry Ghost refers to “the condition of insatiable craving as experienced by alcoholics and drug addicts”. This is summed up by Vince as a craving for life to be other than the way that it is.
Vince Cullen recently led his second Hungry Ghost retreat at New Life. Residents as well as guests from outside spent 5 days exploring a modern depiction of the Buddhist Six Realms of Existence as a model for addiction and recovery.
