New Life Foundation is a non-profit recovery centre and mindful community in northern Thailand. It was established in 2010 and is maintained and expanded by a handful of dedicated staff, long-term and short-term volunteers and residents. We have been amazed by the incredible response from people in need of help with their recovery, as well as the amazing support from families, friends, and the greater community who have all been touched by issues such as addiction, depression, and abuse and who have been very encouraging of our project.
New Life is growing more quickly than we could ever have imaged. Within the last four years, many hundreds of residents have successful completed the program. Right now we have about 25 residents at the community (our current maximum capacity) and often, a waiting list of more than a month for people to begin their recovery here. The program we offer is affordable, high quality, and provides the best of both worlds: western psychology with life coaching and counselling, as well as eastern wisdom with meditation, yoga, and many other mindful therapies that support healing. Working meditation forms part of the daily routine at New Life Foundation. All residents, volunteers and staff work together in growing our food, maintaining the grounds and buildings, providing three healthy organic meals daily, looking after our cows and ducks, as well as building new structures as we grow.
WE ARE DESPERATELY IN NEED OF EXPANDING OUR LIFE COACHING AND THERAPEUTIC FACILITIES IN ORDER TO CATER TO THE GROWING NEEDS OF OUR HEALING COMMUNITY.
Our proposed solution to our space problem is to build an additional building in which staff and volunteers can offer life coaching and therapy to the residents. We would build this ourselves, using mud bricks and other natural materials. This way, we can keep the cost as low as possible. All labor will be donated by our own volunteers, except for the more specialized work, which will be done by local village labourers.
We aim to raise 400 000 Thai Baht and to commence construction after the rainy season in October 2014.
Finances raised will go towards: concrete, windows, tiles, roofing, plumbing, paint, electrical wiring, water filtration, and hiring local villagers to do some of the construction work that that we can’t do ourselves.
Addiction and depression often lead to the depletion of savings and here at New Life we aim to assist residents in dire need of financial aid on their road to recovery with a scholarship program. Any additional funds raised will go towards the scholarship program for residents in need.
WE WILL BE HOLDING 3 FUNDRAISING FLASHMOBS AT CHIANG RAI PLAZA ON SATURDAY JUNE 28, SATURDAY JULY 26, AND SATURDAY AUGUST 30.
THEY WILL INVOLVE SINGING, DANCING, DRUMS, AND COLLECTIVE HUMILIATION FOR THE GREATER GOOD.
