A Thousand Candles…

candlesA long-term member of the New Life community shares a heartfelt letter in this special guest post:

Tom, Kate, Julien,

I just wanted to say a few words to the three of you.

Sometimes I walked around in the foundation, or I was just sitting somewhere, looking around and I got touched by an immense warm feeling of..(sounds ‘moeshy-woeshy’ but will say it anyway..:)  love. Seeing you doing the life-coaching, just talking with residents, leading meditation sessions, meetings, workshops..And those moments I could only think, these people are great!

I think it’s wonderful what you decided to do with your life.

While travelling I found this quote, it was the first one I wrote done, many more followed (and will follow I think), but it’s a quote which has a lot of meaning to me:

 The true meaning of life:

We are visitors on this planet, we are here for 90 or 100 years at the very most. During that period we must try to do something good. Something useful with our lives.

If you contribute to other people’s happiness, you will find the true goal,

The true meaning of life.

I think it’s true, I think in the end it all comes down to that one thing:

Contributing to other people’s happiness. And that’s what you all are doing here!

Of course it’s not always easy, maybe there are moments that you think, why and for who am I actually doing all of this. But imagine how many people left this place, feeling a stronger, more confident, more worthy, more loving, healthier person..And I’m sure you all had much more influence on people than you would think. Even when they don’t express it, when you don’t see or hear it.. Just know the impact is there.

Me personally, I’ve learned so much here, it’s too much to describe in words. But I can tell you this: It has been life-changing, an eye opener, a true revelation.

All of that + just simply: You made me smile again. Something I thought I lost forever.

4 people I met, independently from each other, told me about this place and I am so glad I came.

Coincidence (or not) I can only say it has been the most profound experience of my life.

And I think I found a new direction. When, with whom, where, what exactly…I don’t know. But I don’t worry about it. I can say now that I trust life, I believe it will take me where I need to go.

Of course I am a bit scared too, but I know now I’m not alone, we all are on our own journeys, but also all connected in some way. And whenever I’ll experience difficult times I’ll think of New Life, all the wonderful people I met and all the things I learned and realized while being here.

Never doubt yourself, you all are doing a truly amazing job here. The world needs people like you.

So thank you Julien, Tom and Kate. You’re very special people.

I think I only have 1 bad memory of this place, and that’s the moment I discovered my first grey hair!! And even more than 1!

Enough ‘moeshy-woeshy’

I’ll end with: Please keep doing what you’re doing and..

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.  It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.  We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle…
